Texas Southern University has named Dr. Sunny E. Ohia as the new Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost

President John M. Rudley, announced, July 1, 2008. that Dr. Ohia will join the TSU administration this September, in time for the fall 2008 semester. Dr. Ohia, is currently the dean of the College of Pharmacy at the University of Houston, and has 16 years of academic leadership experience. He served the last five and a half years at UH. Dr. Ohia is also one of the founding Board members of AABS, Inc, and has been relected to the Board from July 1, 2008.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees and Members of AABS, we wholeheartedly congratulate Dr. Ohia, and wish him a successful tenure at Texas Southern University. To view the full announcement, click here.

Kunle Odunsi, MD, PhD, of School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, University at Buffalo, has been elected to the Executive Committee of the Cancer Vaccine Consortium

The Cancer Research Institute Cancer Vaccine Consortium is the leading initiative on cancer vaccine, immunotherapy discovery and development. The Consortium members include many of the world's most innovative pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and academic institutions.

Dr. Odunsi, a member of AABS, is one of a group of twelve executive committee members, selected from experienced leaders who represent the various interests of the CVC membership. The Board of Trustees, on behalf of members of AABS, wish to congratulate Dr. Odunsi for his laudable achievement.

African Union makes a move in fostering progressive scientific agenda.

A three-day summit of the 53-member African Union (AU) that ended in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 30 January 2007, generated some "sparks" about the need to invigorate and develop strategies that gear towards changes in scientific policy on the continent of Africa. The meeting was driven by the AU's science team, headed by Nagia Essayed, and the head of her secretariat, Botlhale Tema. Major achievemts of the deliberations include- plans for three new funding agencies; an Africa-wide system of intellectual-property protection; and a 20-year strategy for biotechnology.

AABS launches "The BioMed Scientist Vol 2"

Outstanding AABS Scientist, Dr. Kunle Odunsi, is honored

Kunle Odunsi, MD, PhD, of School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, University at Buffalo, has been named the 2005 recipient of the Ann-Maria Kellen Cancer Vaccine Collaborative Clinical Investigator. Dr. Odunsi leads a team of scientist who are exploring tumor antigens as targets of immunotherapy for ovarian cancer. Dr. Kunle is an Assistant Professor, attending Surgeon & Research Program Director of Division of Gynecologic Oncology, Department of Surgical Oncology, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, University at Buffalo School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, New York.

Sunny E. Ohia named dean of the University of Houston College of Pharmacy
The Board of Directors of AABS Inc. wishes to announce, with great pride and honor, the appointment of one its dedicated board members and Executive Secretary, Sunny E. Ohia, to the post of dean of the University of Houston College of Pharmacy effective Oct. 1, 2002.

Dr. Ohia is currently associate dean for administration for the Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions. Before becoming associate dean at Creighton, Ohia served as professor and chairman in the department of Pharmaceutical and Administrative Sciences at that university.

Sunny Ohia is one of the founding members of AABS, Inc. He has been a member of the Board of Trustees and its Executive Secretary, since it inception. We wish Dean Ohia a successful term and wold like him to know that we are honored to have him as a member of our "family".

Congratulations! Dean Ohia.

The Board of Directors of AABS, Inc. wish to thank the entire membership of AABS for their rousing support in accomplishing a successful meeting in New Orleans.

The Scientific presentations were of high caliber. The Banquet was excellent, as were the meetings that ensued. Minutes of the meeting have been posted on the listserver.
